Beware of Toys that Pose Unseen Dangers to Kids
Gift-giving time is upon us once again. A shiny new scooter wrapped in holiday bows may look
spiffy under the tree but think twice. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reported that since May,2000, Emergency Room visits caused by scooter accidents are up 700 percent.

Question of the
Week
Question:
Our family has hosted a holiday party on December 24 every year for the past decade. The last two years have proved troubling since we noticed that a few friends and family members had too much to drink. Despite our urgings, they refused to let us or someone else drive them home, insisting they were perfectly able to drive themselves. We do not want to cut them from our guest list as they are close friends and family members. How can we best handle this problem?
Answer:
Try a different tradition. Have a "punch party" with spiked eggnog or fruit punch instead of mixed drinks. Then you are in charge of the alcohol content. Another festive light alcoholic drink to serve is mulled wine, mixed with spices and just a touch of spirits. Always include a punch bowl of non-alcoholic punch as well. Assign a close family member or friend to keep an eye out for those few overexuberant drinkers. Have plenty of food and snacks available also so that the drinks are not the main attraction. Remember, it is your responsibility as hosts, to see that nobody leaves your house drunk with car keys in his or her possession. What ever it takes, just do it.
